Types Of Sconces

So what exactly are candle sconces? What types of sconces are being produced today, and where all can I use them? First, a candle sconce is a decorative piece, usually made of metal, that holds a candle in place, and are typically hung on the wall, although some are made to sit on desks, stands, and tables. They are typically made of metal because of the fire being in such close proximity. The stains found on wood pieces are considered flammable, so it isn’t really recommended using wood sconces.

Candle wall sconces come in a lot of different materials, again, mostly in metals, but generally coming in iron and brass fashions. Iron and brass can be made incredibly decorative, by bending and shaping them into elegant designs, the creators are able to put together a sconce that will not only look good, but last for a very long time. Pieces made of metal are often found from being buried, and are able to be polished back to their original luster. These sconces that ended up getting buried have normally been there for years, so this goes to show you that a metal candle wall sconce is a better option than wood in general.

Iron candle sconces typically have a greyish black tint to them, because of the makeup of the metal. They generally look more rustic than brass models, but they are also easier to keep clean than their brass counterparts. The reason for this is because of their darker color, with pitting that is typically black inside of it. This means that dust and dirt particles can hardly be seen at all. All you normally have to do to clean these is run a towel over them, and the dust usually won’t stick to the sconce, but instead will grab onto the towel.

Brass candle sconces on the other hand are a little more difficult to keep clean. They aren’t too much work though, but you will usually have to wipe them down once a week, because dust tends to stick to brass easier, and the shine on the brass is going to allow you to see any imperfections in it. You usually only have to wipe it off with a damp cloth, and the dust will stick to the towel. Taking care of a brass wall sconce isn’t all that hard, and many people consider the shine on them to be more decorative than their iron counterparts.
